2021-2022

"Student Graduation Projects" Competition (2021)

Beste Demircan and Alp Buğra Nazar, graduates of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), were awarded for their living space projects in the "Student Graduation Projects" competition organized by the Association of Izmir Free-Lance Architects. The projects, 'Urban Implant' and 'Creative and Coexisting Living', which succeeded in receiving the 'exhibition award' by designing environmentally friendly, aesthetic and disabled-friendly projects, will be shared with residents of Izmir at various events to be held in the upcoming period.

"Toy Design Social Responsibility Project" Design Patent

Assoc. Prof. Didem Kan Kılıç received a design patent from the Turkish Patent Institute with the Toy Design Social Responsibility Project.

Design Turkey Industrial Design Awards

In the Design Turkey Industrial Design Awards within the framework of TURQUALITY® program, IUE Interior Architecture and Environmental Design graduates and founders of Wangan design office Kerem Özerler, Kutay Yorulmaz and Mert Can Uzyıldırım received the award of Good Design in the category of home furniture.

London Design Festival 2019

Kerem Özerler, Mert Uzyıldırım, and Kutay Yorulmaz, graduates of Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Faculty of Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), qualified to exhibit their collection under the brand of “Wangan” at “London Design Festival 2019”.

2018-2019

BELENCO İç Mekan Tasarım Yarışması (2019)

Interior architecture students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) are showered with prizes for their concept store designs. IUE young interior architects received first prize, second prize, honorary mention, and exhibition prize at the interior design competition co-organized by Belenco Quartz Surfaces and TMMOB Chamber of Interior Architects of Izmir.

Berk İsmail Öndül, sophomore from IUE Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design came in first place with his concept store design where small objects and coffee is sold. Nuri Koparan and İskender Kömür, both sophomores from IUE Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, received second prize and honorary mention respectively. Sevginur Ursavaş, junior also from the same department, received exhibition prize.

The Ideas for Bornova Competition

The second year students of Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) reconsidered the Yeşilova Mound Visitor Center, which is founded and conducted by Archeologist Dr. Zafer Derin and designed by Architect Evren Başbuğ as a research / resting space for archeology students. A living unit within the context of this project is defined as, a space in which units ten students can live and work and which includes working, resting, eating, and wet allocation spaces. The living unit is designed with 2D and 3D moduls and includes socialization spaces such as, kitchen, library, and study spaces for students.

The project team and 6 students were awarded by the Mayor of Bornova Municipality Olgun Atila at the opening ceremony of the 5 th Design exhibition of BİF (THE IDEAS FOR BORNOVA), which will be exhibited between 01 March 2019 and 08 April 2019.

Pending Cultures International Competition

In the international competition entitled "Pending Cultures" that students of Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design (IAED) participated in with their projects within the scope of Furniture Design course, the projects of our students Çağla İrem Karol, Sinem Parlas and Onur Dülger passing the first elimination have been entitled to be exhibited.

The project team, including Assistant Prof. Dr. Ali Aslankan from the department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, received design patent with "The Teos of Dionysos Mobile Game".

2016-2017

Pending Cultures International Competition

In the design workshop and competition based on the exchange of cultural values between universities from different countries, organized by University of Florence, Italy, third year Interior Architecture and Environmental Design student Anıl Nayır and his Italian partner Lisa Forte's lighting design "Binbir Gece" (One Thousand and One Lights) has been awarded "The most poetic design" mention prize by the international jury.

Gazi Street Urban Renovation and Facade Rehabilitation Competition

In the Gazi Street Urban Renovation and Facade Rehabilitation Competition organized by the Elazığ Municipality, Asst. Prof. Dr. Emre Ergül won the 3rd prize.

İÇLEK-I National Congress of Interior Architecture Graduate Education  

IUE Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Department Research Assistant Hande Atmaca won the "The Most Successful Master's Thesis Award in the Field of Interior Architecture" at the İÇLEK-I National Congress of Interior Architecture Graduate Education with her thesis on "Patient Centered Approaches in Labor and Delivery Room Design in Hospitals”.

Acar Concepts and Design Competition 

In Acar Concepts & Design Competition, IAED Graduate Ümit Çağlar won 2nd Prize with his design "Shell", and IAED Student Esra Oflaz was a finalist with her design "FoBox".

Furniture designs of young designers competed in the event, which was supported by DePadova Turkey. We congratulate our graduate Ümit Çağlar and our student Esra Oflaz for their success and wish to see more in the future.

Adıyaman Active Living Center Architectural Project Competition 

In the competition organized by Turkish Republic Ministry of Family and Social Policies, Asst. Prof. Dr. Emre Ergül, full time instructor, was awarded third honorable mention.

2012-2013

Koçtaş Interior Design Competition

İzmir University of Economics, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design students Tayfun Çelik, Can Ceylaner, Özhan Gül and Can Başdoğan won 3rd place in the Koçtaş Kitchen Design Competition.

The aim of the competition is tao raise interior architecture and architecture students’ awareness to the production of creative ideas to answer the kitchen needs of different cultures and life styles. The projects needed to include creative solutions for American Open Kitchen style that is in keeping with all living spaces in the house. Our students who fulfilled all the requirements of the competition with their project named “Mod-Loft”, designed a living space and an industrial kitchen in a loft and represented their department in a national design competition with success. After they got their prize in a ceremony in İstanbul Technical University, Taşkışla Campus, another special ceremony for them ceremony has been organized with the participation of the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design Prof. Dr. Ender Bulgun, all of the instructors of the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design and Department Head Asst. Prof. Dr. Deniz Hasırcı who honored students with certificates.

After the ceremony students stated the importance of taking part in such design competitions and adviced their friends to follow these competitions where they can make valuable contributions to the Interior Architecture profession.
