‘Illuminating’ designs by IUE graduate Sedef
Sedef Şen (28), a graduate of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, carried her passion for nature into design, and started to develop stylish lighting fixtures (sconces, lampshades, table lamps) using glass and brass. After completing her master's degree in Italy, Şen, who returned to Turkey and established her own brand and designed special products for interior spaces, represented our country in Milan Design Week (Isola Design District) with an object she prepared. Stating that she wants to expand her collection with the brand 'Senstudio' and wants to design remarkable works abroad as well as in our country, Şen said, “I will continue to produce functional and fun designs that excite people and reflect my own spirit.”
Sedef Şen from Izmir graduated from IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design in 2017. After graduating from the university with a double foreign language, Şen decided to develop herself further in her field of education and went to Italy and got a master's degree in interior design at Domus Academy. After her master’s education, Şen started her career at a company called ‘Ted Milano’ and got the opportunity to cooperate with famous brands such as Kartell, Natuzzi, Moncler and Cisco.
Returning to Turkey after a successful adventure in Italy, Şen decided to start her own business after receiving training in digital brand management. Realizing that there were not enough alternatives in the design lighting products used indoors, Şen established the 'Senstudio' brand with the aim of meeting this need.
CHILDHOOD INTEREST
Stating that she aims to exhibit her designs by expanding abroad as well as Turkey, Şen said, “Since my childhood, I was interested in design and focused on developing something different. This feeling of mine did not change at all when I was young, and I majored accordingly at the university. After spending the university period very well, studying in Italy was also a unique opportunity for me. Here, I got to know the business life and established a business network. Then I returned to continue my career in Izmir, to achieve successful works in this city.”
REFLECTS MY SOUL
Şen continued as follows: “The products I prepare are made of brass and glass, all of them are handcrafted and produced by artisans. All of my products are very stylish objects that complete the decoration. One of my works qualified to be exhibited at the most recent Milan Design Week in Italy. In addition to being a lighting fixture, it can be used both as an object and a vase. All my products are patented and registered. I will continue to produce functional and fun designs that excite people and reflect my soul. I'm doing what I love and I'm inspired by nature, this is my biggest secret.”
